Euan....Euan Frizzel

I just received an email, and I was saddened to hear of the passing of Euan Frizzel.

EUAN FRIZZEL

When I was really young he gave me one of my first jobs, and a start in Animation, in his little Animation company.
God knows why he hired me, I turned up looking like a cross between Sid Vicious and Beaker from the Muppets, and was so unprepared/naive I didn't even have a portfolio... just photocopied Punk gig posters and some fanzines I'd drawn. But he generously offered me a position, and let me at least attempt to make a go of it! The hours were long, the work pretty gruelling (adverts and TV shows...all of which had to be done super quick), but it was a great training ground.
Euan was a generous mentor, quick with a smile, with a gentle humour, and made you feel like a member of his Animation family.
He gave me the confidence to spread my wings, and move on to new challenges. I'll always remeber him at his desk, drawing away, slippers on, and his light laugh at passing jokes.

Thank you Euan, You gave me so much.

HACKNEY WICKED OPEN HOUSE WEEKEND 2012

HACKNEY WICKED OPEN HOUSE WEEKEND 2012

Our Open House Weekend was an amazing success! Actually had people queuing to get in on Saturday!
Met some incredible people, from kiddies, to a 72 year old lady who wants to make her own comic book! Met some other amazing artists, designers, photographers, and even a lovely editor/art director (Who'd a thunk they existed huh???!) !

Everyone was really cool...and checked out the art I had on display (Original TANK GIRL and SOLID GOLD DEATH MASK and 2000ad/Judge Dredd art) and my robot collection and all the other bits and pieces!!
Many people tried on my GLUEDO headpiece and the TANK GIRL helmet too!

My favourite moment was when 2 little girls discovered my Tankie print with all the willies drawn all over the wall and started laughing hysterically.
They pointed out their favourite ones and laughed more, while their Mum laughed along...it was pretty cool.

It was an incredible weekend.... Thank you to all who attended, brought books to get signed, and were so courteous! Thanks also to SPACE STUDIOS and the HACKNEY WICKED organisers and volunteers.

Here's some photos... enjoy!!!

Old friends....

Having moved into my new place relatively recently...I've been unpacking things I haven't looked at in years...

I pulled this illustration out of the Bubble wrap...I've not had it up for years...
It is by my wonderfully talented friend John Hicklenton, an amazing artist, and a very funny witty guy.

He did me this as a gift, as a thank you, when I paid the deposit for him when he had to move flats quickly, years ago.

I miss his wit, his sharp observations and his unique art. His work on NEMESIS in 2000ad deeply inspired me as a kid, with his no holds barred depiction of the alien insanity... and that's why I love this piece.
John's art was always divisive ... maybe that's why I loved it so much... you can't sit on the fence...

It's brutal and in your face. John showed me how you ca be honest and brave, and have your own world view in art...and I'll always love him for that.

Thanks John. XXX <3 p="p">

TANGLED UP IN BLUE...

TANGLED UP IN BLUE

TANGLED UP IN BLUE

TANGLED UP IN BLUE
Finished off the other Tank picture I'd had sitting on my easel last night.
I'd originally just done it in pencil, then put a sepia wash on it... but it looked a little flat and dead...so I've added some dirty blue, and beefed up the linework with watered down brown ink to 'lift' the figures out of the piece!

I t was fun doing just a wash and line piece of art as an evening's entertainment, while trying to juggle a glass of wine (Ok...a bottle) and the cat on my lap.

Have a great weekend!

QuiQuiRiQui Mezcal

QuiQuiriQui Mezcal

On Friday, I set myself a little challenge of doing a quick painting. I'd been ill all week, so was going a bit crazy, and thought some art therapy might help.

Decided to do a quick Tankie painting, so I could exhibit it at Treviso Comic Con, in Italy at the end of the month.

Started off with a quick pencil sketch....

and then got a big fat fucked up marker and badly/quickly inked it.

I then did a super quick 30 second sepia tone wash on it.... let it it dry...

Then attacked it with Acrylic paint... half the time with my cat Ripley helpfully on my lap...

In all, I think it was 5 1/2 hours from picking up a pencil, to finishing, and spilling my coffee.
